Reduce the size of the state by 50%, getting rid of all the hangers on and enshrine in law the requirement that government must always balance its books.😀

A day isn’t long so I’ve already drafted my simple bill to be presented to Parliament to complete all stages through to Royal Assent within 1 day:

Great Repeal Act 2024

An Act to remove from the law of the United Kingdom statutes that were implemented without thought of their full consequences and which cause harm to the people of the United Kingdom through their adverse effects on their economic well being and freedoms.

Be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1. The Acts of Parliament set out in Clause 2 shall be repealed with immediate effect upon the passing of this Act.

2. The Acts to be repealed are as follows:

(1) The Town and Country Planning Act 1947;

(2) The Scotland Act 1998;

(3) The Government of Wales Act 1998;

(4) The Climate Change Act 2008;

(5) The Gender Recognition Act 2004;

(6) The Equality Act 2010

(7) The Human Rights Act 1998

3. Short Name

The short title of this Act is the Great Repeal Act 2024

That’s the easy bit. Further additions for clause 2 are welcome. My bills to replace the NHS and all State education with privately provided, competitive, alternatives funded through a social insurance model will take a bit longer to draft.

Now put that in a poem and make it rhyme!

That will take me rather longer than a day!

Abolish the Hunting Act.

Rename the Dept of Defence the War Office and staff it with serving soldiers for men under military training - no more civil servants.

Alongside everyone else's excellent suggestions I would make sure that Free Speech was enshrined in law.

When I say free speech, I mean absolute free speech. I tend to agree with Brendan ONeil that anybody should be allowed to say anything. Then the bad faith people are exposed for what they are doing soon enough.

Of course it bring back the Bernard Mannings but it will also destroy this mission creep into Stalin like authoritarianism.

Personally, I'd rather be offended than be controlled.

Ban all advertising. It's thinly disguised propaganda.

Here's a thought,

What if we actually left the EU? What if we cut all ties with the USA? What if we reversed devolution? What if we actually prosecuted and, if necessary, imprisoned all corrupt politicians? What if we made our NHS a non profit organisation by booting out all the unnecessary admin and stopped the criminal amount of wasted funds?

What if we went the whole hog and removed health provision from the arms of the State and put it into the hands of assorted competing businesses operating under the social insurance model that is the norm in the rest of Europe? We might get to enjoy their level of patient focussed delivery with superior health outcomes for a similar % of GDP.

How would all the Remoaners have coped if their beloved EU had issued a Health Directive requiring the implementation of the European model on competitive grounds, thus forcing the break up of the NHS?

It’s nice to dream sometimes.
